Kairat Kelimbetov

Kairat Kelimbetov served as the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning in the Government of Kazakhstan.[1] In late July 2005 Minister Kelimbetov announced that Kazakhstan's GDP grew by 9.1% in the last year.[2]

In December of 2009, the Associated Press news agency reported that "KazatomProm", one of the companies managed by the National Well-Being Fund "Samruk-Kazyna" was close to clinching a deal with Iran to clandestinely export 1,350 tons of purified uranium ore from Kazakhstan".

AP reported that Iran was willing to pay $450 million to secure the deal, which involved Kazakh state employees acting on their own without the approval of the Kazakh government.[3]

Mr.Kairat Kelimbetov is the Chairman of the Board of "Samruk-Kazyna" and controls all significant dealings of the portfolio companies, including "KazatomProm". He is not a member of the Kazakh government.
